Humans like to debate things, most of us don’t even care what the topic is, the very fact that there is a topic is more than enough reason for us to grab it with both hands and debate the life out of it.

Remember a time when we used to debate the existence of God? That is old news!

Remember a time when we used to debate the meaning of life? Ha! That is so last week!

If, like myself, you enjoy little more than a good old fashioned debate, you will no doubt have dropped such insignificant concerns and you will be debating something much more powerful.

Who was better as The Joker, Nicholson or Ledger?

While it is true that I love a good debate I feel it necessary to skip past that whole process of weighing up evidence and jump straight to the only sensible conclusion.  Don’t choose.  You don’t have to choose.  They both did an equally wonderful job with the character and, most importantly, they both played the character differently.

I’ll no doubt be attacked by hundreds of Heather Ledger fans for saying this, but is it not possible, ever so slightly, that the popular “Ledger was better than Nicholson” statement is partially influenced by the fact that the young actor died in such shocking circumstances?

Ledger was brilliant.

Nicholson was brilliant.

Both films are brilliant.

Besides, I don’t know about you guys but I once saw some footage of Nicholson attacking a vehicle with a Golf club in some sort of Golf-rage incident, do you really want to risk upsetting Jack?

It'd start off first of all by saying Ledger had a much better part written for him.

Honestly, my opinion is not coloured at all by the fact he died, I wasn't even thinking about it while I was watching - apart from right at the end when he's left upside down dangling and laughing on a rope, what an odd place to finish a movie career.

Nicholson is cheesy, Nicholson is pantomine, but it fitted that film and that universe. With both Jokers you were absolutely glued any time either was on screen, and that is perhaps the greatest compliment of all.

I too like Ledger's role better, it was written and thought out well.  Nicholson's role as the Joker was more comic, cartoon style (Tim Burton style if I might add).  Ledger's role was more real life, like that person could really exist.  I personally like Ledger's role better because he was more intresting and dark.  He really made you want more.  His death didnt effect my opinion as who is a better Joker, When I watched the film I did think about his recent death, because he played the role so well, it made me sad because you can never see him play it again.  Ledger made me want to know more about the Joker, the reason why he was the way he was?  What really happened to his face?  What will he do next?  I was just so pulled into the movie with his performance.

But in overall Ledger and Nicholson did excellent jobs on the roles they were casted for!  To me the are two totally different films.  Even though they are both Batman movies, they have different feels to them.  Tim Burtom is Tim Burton, all his films are portrayed a certain way, so its hard to compare them both.

Hands down Ledger, because I like that Batman world better than Burtons. But yes, Nicholson was brilliant in the Burtonverse.
