I do!!!  I know lots about him.  The main thing I know is that he will go down as a legend!!

He has done films such as Sprited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howls Moving Castle and has a current film in Asian theatres right now called Ponyo on a Cliff,

I just wanted to know if there were any other Miyazaki fans on this site before I started blabbing my mouth about him!!

get back to me on this!

I usually cannot stand anime because a lot of it tends to be so poorly drawn.  But, having said that, I am a big fan of Miyazaki.  His films understand the limits of the style, and use them to their advantage.  Incredible backgrounds and wonderful animation in all of his movies.  While I certainly haven't seen enough of his work, I am definitely getting more into it and have loved every one.

I am so glad that Miyazaki is out there making films considering how hard it is to come across decent anime.  I typically dislike the style because it is so often used in lieu of actual talent.  But the line between talented anime artists and people just making excuses becomes very apparent in the background work, or basically anything that isn't an animated character or prop.  Even though animated objects are typically simplified, the environments are absolutely gorgeous.  Man can those guys Miyazaki employs draw.  As a student who's studies involve production work similar to that, I can only be filled with envy.

Well Mr. Lovemark I'm glad you feel that way.  I too myself am not a typical anime fan either, but when it comes to Hayao Miyazaki I am one one of the BIGGEST fans!  I wasnt palnning on writing a segment on Miyazaki's work unless there was a few people on here that enjoyed his work, but screw that, one person is enough inspiration for me when it comes to Miyazaki!!

I will definetly be notifing you when I post it!!!

Did anyone else catch Tales of the Earth Sea - a film directed by Hayao's son, Goro? I thought that was an understated piece of loveliness. Though for people hate slow movies - it is hard to watch.

Thanks alot Mahmoud El Azzeh!!!!!!!  You're awesome!

I havent seen Tales From the Earthsea yet, I've seen all the Studio Ghibli films though.  I dont know too much about Goro Miyazaki?  If I am correct, that was his first film, his father Hayao didnt want him to make the film because he didmt think he was ready, I have even read a couple places that he tried to sabatoge the film.  I have never read any information on why he believed his son Goro wasnt ready to do a film??

But I do want to see the Tales From The Earthsea, I dont think their has been an american release of the film, has their?  So I'll have to watch the Japanese version.

So El Azzeh which Miyazaki films have you seen??  Which one is your favorite?  That would be a vrey hard decision for me but if had to narrow it down I would have to select Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Yeah i read an article about that rift between the Miyazaki clan - i do believe Hayao turned up to the premiere of Tales from the Earth Sea and gave it the thumbs up.

I've seen a fair few Miyazaki/Ghibli films and trying to recall them all. I liked Laputa - Castle in the Sky very much. It's a film that my older cousin turned me onto from his childhood years and I only saw it about 2 years ago - very good movie. I've seen a couple of others from Hayao including Spirted Away and Nausica is a very good film too. I can't say I've seen too many to know that Laputa is his best film though.

I remember some other Ghibli film, Grave of the Fireflies, just being the most depressing fucking film I've ever seen in my entire life and I don't ever want to sit through that again - it's just too sad for me. Kids slowly dying is not fun.

Glad you think I'm awesome though - I also agree that I'm awesome too.  Grin

Awesome.
