Lock Stock director, Guy Ritchie has denied reports that Russell Crowe is to appear as Dr. Watson in his Sherlock Holmes movie.

Russell Crowe was rumored to be considering the role of Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie’s reworking of Sherlock Holmes.

A source told The Sun newspaper that "Russell wants the part, Guy wants Russell."

However, Ritchie, speaking at the premiere of RocknRolla last night, stated that his still has not found anyone to play Holmes’ sidekick.

"Somebody just told me that I have Russell Crowe lined up but that's news to me. I suspect that hasn't happened and I'm still looking for my Watson."

Mr. Madonna will base his Sherlock Holmes script on Lionel Wigram’s forthcoming comic book series.

Filming is expecting to begin next month, and set to be released in 2010.

Ritchie's current cinema offering, RocknRolla is released on September 4th.

You can't believe anything that is published in The Sun, The Mirror or any of the other British tabloids. The movie news they 'break' is never, ever true. Of course it makes you think if they make this stuff up so casually, what are they doing in their politics and news sections? And so many people read it. It's actually quite a scary prospect.

But Page 3 I always think is a good (pause) "read"...

Tell me about it.
I don't know who these 'sources' are, but the journalist who believed that was a very silly person indeed.

It's not a gullible journalist at The Sun, they just make it up. There is no source.

I used to work with Matthew Wright after he was showbiz editor at The Mirror. I asked him "When you write 'a pal said', you're just making that up aren't you?" He said yes.

If it weren't for lies and speculation, there'd be no newsworthy news.

Good point Tyler!

I guess people gotta be smart enough to seperate whats speculation and whats real.

It is BS that people jump to these conclusions, knowing that it is assumed info or the fact that they could just be plain making it up to lure people into buying there magazines, then you have these idiots that believe its true then they go spreading crap on the inernet.  Its very confusing sometimes!

According to the Bible, now you'll inherit the earth. Try to keep the bullshit to a minimum when you're in charge, huh?

P.S. the idea of Crowe taking a less than 50% supporting roll for anyone but Ridley Scott is laughable

So the role has now been cast and it wasn't Russell Crowe, just some nobody British actor.

The Sun made it up. Big surprise.

Russell Crowe might be playing Professor Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes' true nemesis. He wont be the main villian of the film though it will be Blackwood played by Mark Strong. This means that the film will probably lead to a sequel or more!

Sounds cool eh?

I heard the exact same rumour about Al Pacino at head of the organisation in Quantum Of Solace a year ago. I'll believe it when I see it...

If it's Russell Crowe in that role I will eat an item of my clothing.

Not my jacket, something smaller.
