Today news has broken that British director Danny Boyle, famed for 90s hit "Trainspotting" and the ground-breaking "28 Days Later" in 2002, has won the Viewers Choice award at the Toronto Film Festival for his new movie "Slumdog Millionaire" starring Dev Patel.

"Slumdog" is far removed from Boyle's last release - 2007's "Sunshine" - this time opting for a romantic dramedy rather than a special effects laden blockbuster. The story revolves around Jamal Malik (Patel) who in an effort to prove his love for friend Latika (played by Freida Pinto) takes part in the hindi version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire"

Also exhibiting material at this years TFF were Wong Car Wai with his new movie "Ashes of Time Redux" and the ever present Cohen brothers brought a little star quality to proceedings with "Burn After Reading" which stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and John Malkovich. Also representing the Brits at Toronot was Guy Ritchie with current release "RocknRolla"

I'm pumped to see him tackle this genre. Sunshine was on my best of 2007 list, though a lot of folks hated it.

And Millions is worth a rent, actually, one of the better Kids movies in recent years.

Sunshine was great, I don't really know why people bash it.

All my friends thought the twist "came out of the blue, especially for a science fiction film"

And my response was, the opening show was a dude worshiping the sun ... where did you think it was going?

Yeah, Sunshine was an excellent movie.  I don't know why people are so mixed when it comes to it.  It was nice to see an effects driven movie that wasn't obsessed with the effects.
