Tobey will star in SPIDERMAN 4 & 5, which will shoot back-to-back in an effort reign in the massive costs to make these things.  He'll receive a record $50 million dollars in salary and profit shares for both films.  In addition he has negotiated "family time" as part of his contract, which will allow him "early mornings" and "evenings off"  to spend time with his 22-month-old daughter Ruby.  In the next few days Sony is expected to reveal whether Maguire’s ex-girlfriend Kirsten Dunst will be returning as his on-screen love interest, Mary Jane Watson.  There has so far been no mention if director Sam Raimi would also be returning.

I've mentioned before I'm not a big comic book guy.  Not that I wouldn't mind it but they never really were on my radar growing up.  My attention at the newstand was always distracted to the inaccessible back row touting the current issues of JUGGS and SLUT MONTHLY.  But I digress . . .

Anyhoo, in regards to the SPIDERMAN series, I thought the first one was "meh", totally dug SPIDERMAN 2 and scratched my head at the continuous bad choices of SPIDERMAN 3.  I also thought Maguire was pretty good in the role but could easily imagine pretty much any baby-faced actor (Currently being mocked by some critics as "boy-men).  So should he be making this kind of bank to come back for the sequels?  Quite honestly, in regards to this series, I don't think the paying audience gives two shits who's dawning the red-and-black tights so long as its amidst a fun, entertaining movie.  Its not like we're talking "John McClane" here who is pretty much Bruce Willis' alter ego.  (Another example seems to be Robert Englund as "Freddy Kruger" based on the numerous responses received from a past news story indicating Billy Bob Thorton was a possibility for the upcoming NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake).

Time and time again Hollywood is clueless as to what components are the necessities for a successful sequel.  And most of the time it involves the cast.  Another prime example is with the PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN films.  A medium-sized country SHOULD go to Johnny Depp to reprise "Jack Sparrow".  But they also paid a hefty fortune for the return of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly.  Does anybody even remember their names in those films?  Thought so.

Getting back to Maguire's deal, there has been alot of criticism about him choosing his hours to film.  And God knows what kind of shooting schedule they're gonna end up with based pretty much on 9-to-5 working hours.  But if Hollywood is willing to give it to him, why not take it?  Wouldn't you?

I will reserve my judgement on this until I know more about it. I really liked the first one but after that I felt the movies became too heavily crowded and, particularly in 3, this wasn't very well dealt with.
I hope they can learn from previous mistakes and bring back the greatness of Spidey 1.
