First pictures from the set of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

One film that has been in pre-production hell for what seems like an eternity is Tim Burton's dark re-imagining of the Disney classic Alice in Wonderland, a story that's fairly dark to begin with. Well, the film is finally being shot and the first pictures from the set are starting to leak out. The pictures show young actress Mia Wasikowska as Alice aboard a giant ship of some kind. As well as starring Wasikowska, Johnny Depp is confirmed as the Mad Hatter, a part it seems he was born to play.

The movie is slated for a 2010 release and will make extensive use of CGI, presumably to re-create some of the stranger aspects of Wonderland.

Burton's version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory was surprisingly watchable, I have high hopes for this film.

I'm quite surprised at how 'ordinary' these images are, I was expecting something far more whacked out. These will be from before she reaches Wonderland, but even so.

But what a way to tease!  This movie is going to be AMAZING!  I can feel it in my bones
