Its seems like Terrence Howard won't be returning for the IRON MAN sequel.  In the film he played the character of Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man's best friend and future armor-clad co-hero "War Machine".  One scene featured Howard looking at a one of Stark's experimental suits of armor and saying "Next Time".

In his place will be fellow top-shelf black actor Don Cheadle, who has displayed his pwn acting brilliance in such films as CRASH, BOOGIE NIGHTS and the OCEAN films (Gotta love that Cockney accent!) Marvel indicated it had planned on working with Cheadle in the past; however his role in the prospective project ended up going in another direction.

Marvel, however, had zipped lips over the reason for Howard's departure.  But a close source indicated said negotiations fell through over financial differences among other reasons.  Is it just me or does that final phrase "among other reasons" sound a little too cryptic to me . . . Even by Hollywood's standards.  As a master of assumption I'm gonna go with this being yet another case of good, old-fashion "creative differences".   I will further elaborate on my theory by stating that Howard had wanted the sequel's script to feature a twist ending where War Machine suddenly turns on Ironman and pummels him into a single, slightly dented tin can (figuratively speaking).  He then moves up the ranking to lead hero in the franchise.

Speaking of the sequel script, Justin Theroux (co-writer of the hilarious TROPIC THUNDER, who as an actor played, strangely enough, the film director in David Lynch's MULHOLLAND DRIVE).  The supercool Jon Favreau is back to helm.  Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow (as Stark's put-upon assistant/love interest Pepper Potts) are also expected to return.

War Machine.

Actually I was just kidding about War Machine taking over . . . But who wouldn't wanna take over such a potentially mega-blockbuster franchise? !

Am I the only one that finds Don Cheadle near the bottom of their "potential action hero" list?  No offense to the man as an actor, I usually love his roles, but this just seems off for some reason.  I guess we'll find out in a year or so if I'm just talking out of my ass or not.

Am I the only that is still upset over the Howard casting in the first flick. I am even more upset by this casting choice.

Jim Rhodes/War Machine was always drawn as being a guy bigger than stark and much more muscular. You want War Machine you go get Michael Clarke Duncan. End of discussion.

You can't put Kingpin in the War Machine outfit.

Sliiiiiiiiiight problem with this plan. Man can't act. He wasn't acting in Green Mile, he's a Teddy Bear in real life, and every time he steps away from that he absolutely fails on all levels.

Don Cheadle is a fine actor, but I have a real hard time seeing him in this role. Tarrence Howard really knocked it out of the part with the few scenes he had, despite his shoulder width, so that's the most important thing to me I guess. Makes me nervous that they're fucking with a great formula. I really hope they don't botch their winning streak. Which, I guess, is only two movies.

I think Terrance Howard is a good actor, here are some good roles in films he played, Crash, Hustle and Flow, Awake, The Brave One, Four Brothers, Get Rich or Die Tryin, and Idlewild. I thijk the man can act, I also like Don Cheadle alot too, in my opinion he is a better actor than Terrance Howard but I just hate to see roles being replaces by different actors in sequels.

I hate films replacing actors (apart from in the cases of Batman, Bond etc). I liked Howard in the role and thought the charisma between him and Downey Jr. was great, so I really don't want to see him go.
