Reports today have confirmed Crispin Glover as the latest star to sign on to star in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Glover joins a cast including Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Mia Wasikowska as Alice. Glover will play The Knave of Hearts, a character that is the main focus of chapter 11 in the original book when he is put on trial in front of the Queen for stealing some jam tarts and is then defended by Alice as the evidence becomes increasingly absurd.

Burton plans to combine live-action and motion capture to recreate the chaotic and bizarre world in Lewis Carroll’s novel, which is something that Glover will doubtlessly excel at having recently played the character of Grendel in Beowulf.

One of the most underrated actors in the business, Glover has not been given the parts he deserves since his signature role as George McFly in the Back to the Future films. In fact he has been cast in some appalling movies recently (Epic Movie immediately comes to mind) and it will be nice to see him in something credible for once, and gain him the recognition he deserves.

I loathe motion-capture just because its neither fish nor fowl.  If I wanna see things like this I'll play a video game and likewise if I wanna see a movie with people that don't look like creepy-ass wax figures that don't seem to blink.  But with that said it could really amp up the creepy aspects of this film and I can't help but become increasingly giddy as more of ALICE's peculiar but talented cast is named.

I have to agree that so far mo cap movies have sucked, though I appreciated Zemeckis's attempts to push film boundries.

Mo cap works when mixed with live action, it's how they did Gollum, so I'm still on board. Though, as a director, Tim Burton has been on a long downward slide.

For me, Sweeney Todd was a return to form.

Yeah Sweeny Todd was a nice one, I am not a too big of a fan when it comes to musicals, but I did enjoy the film, I really hope Alice and Wonderland had an erie/creepy/Burton vibe too it! I am pretty anxious on what comes of this film!
