Variety has announced that Gary Oldman is the latest star to be recruited for Albert and Allen Hughes’ post apocalyptic Western, ‘The Book of Eli’. The film will follow the heroic Eli as he travels across America with a sacred book which holds the key to mankind’s salvation. Oldman will be joining Denzel Washington (who plays the titular character of Eli) as the villain of the piece: the tyrannical despot of a small town, who will do anything to gain possession of Eli’s aforementioned book.
The script has been penned by Gary Whitta with a group of producers, including Joel Silver and star Denzel Washington behind the project.
The film begins shooting in February, with a planned release date for January 2010.

This idea sounds awesome, but From Hell is one of only two movies that has ever made me walk out of the theater, so I'm not sure I'll dig the directing.

um ... other movie ... can't remember the title, but it had Geoffrey Rush and a roller coaster and ghosts in a mental hospital. It wasn't that awful, but we left cause one of the guys in our group had a weak stomach and couldn't handle the violence.

I walked out of From Hell because it was so heavy handed and I knew who Jack the Ripper was as soon as they showed the guy (I had a friend show staid and told me the ending).

In other fun anecdotes, a girl walked out with me cause she ALSO couldn't handle the violence, and I think we left not long after the scene where the dude bangs the prostitute against the fence.

We stopped by an old roadside diner to wait for the movie to get out so we could go pick up the guy  who staid. The girl opened the menu and burst out laughing ... the first two items were a Bloody Mary and a Harvey Wallbanger ...

Geoffrey Rush, ghosts and a roller coaster? That's The House On Haunted Hill.
Another of my personal favourites.

And yet you don't like Evil Dead?  If you and I ever meet we might have a horror geek showdown my friend.

I have a "try movies twice" policy ever since I disliked Big Lebowski the first time around. So far I've made a point ot rewatch Sleep Hollow ... and found I liked it even less than the first time. I'll give house on haunted hill another go ... I actually think that has one of my top scaries moments in it ... when one of the snout monsters suddenly moves in fast forward down the hallway towards the camera.

I don't mind Evil Dead, I just like my horror a bit straighter. Same goes for the early Peter Jackson stuff. I like the spooky, the suspenseful and the atmospheric. House On Haunted Hill isn't the greatest, but has a good atmosphere, with shades of Clue about it.

And you can't beat a good snout monster.

Dead Alive is awesome ... guy kills about 100 zombies with a lawn mower.

Bad Taste is great as well. Both silly, slapstick gross out comedies more than horror.
