Up and coming child actor, Jaden Smith has signed up to appear in the remake of the Karate Kid, Variety reports.
The ten year old son of Will Smith, who acted alongside his father in the 2006 weepie, The Pursuit Of Happyness, is said to be a martial arts fanatic. According to Variety, daddy Smith is also reported to be producing the movie.
The Karate Kid rehash is reported to have been penned by Chris Murphy, and will follow the familiar ‘passive boy who learns karate from a quirky mentor to overcome bullies’ scenario.
The original movie, released in 1984, made Elizabeth Shue and the late Pat Morita household names in the movie world, but the same could not be said of the star of film, Ralph Macchico. Hopefully the young Smith will not have the same fate.
