I personally don't think Christine is one of Carpenter's best, there was definitely big room for improvement across the board. But watching it again recently, I did enjoy it.

I had ideas immediately after I watched it, but it's been a few months, so I've forgot specifics. For one, just how the car was shot - the framing was too mundane and ordinary too much of the time. As a result the car often wasn't given enough presence or just simply wasn't scary enough.
However the scene where it reconstructs itself, and the music that goes with it, is awesome.

They wouldn't have destroyed 50 classic cars T.Ross, they make, I forget the term, 'moulds' of the car that go over stunt vehicles - I believe.

Not all of them would have been destroyed. I just read on one site 15 were destroyed and 25 were used throughout filming. I can't remember the exact amount but there were a few. But yeah, on certain shots they would have just used moulds instead of a proper car

Carpenter is a legend, his most recent output has been seriously lacking (Ghosts of Mars anyone?) but you just can't fault his earlier stuff. He has also been th eone that has defined genres for me, Horror and Sci-Fi especially.

Escape From New York was going to be directed by Brett Ratner, starring Gerard Butler. But they're both out now, so it's momentarily in limbo.

You cannot remake John Carpenter. It fails, without exception.
Assault on Precinct - sucked
The Fog - sucked
Halloween - sucked
Even when he remakes himself, as with Escape from LA and Ghosts of Mars (being rehashes of Escape from New York and Assault on Precinct 13, he fails as well.

The Assault on Precinct 13 remake was pretty good. Haven't seen the original though.
Someone needs to remake PRnice of Darkness. Awesome concept, absolute shit film, I'm sorry to say it. That's one early Carpenter film that totally biffs it.

haha, fair enough. You know what, I remember thinking it was an "alright" movie with an awesome concept. And since they took the concept from Carpenter and that was the strongest part (well, that and the CGI blood spurts) I'd have to submit to your take on it.
