Most people hate them...personally, I love them.  Being a child of the '80's I have a soft spot for them all, even the crap ones (and trust me there are plenty of them).  Here's a rundown of the most entertaining of them!

10. FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984)

9. THE BURNING (1981)

8. SLEEPAWAY CAMP (1983)

7. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT (1984)

6. HATCHET (2007)

5. THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)

4. SCREAM (1996)

3. FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980)

2. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984)

1. HALLOWEEN (1978)

Very true. I edited that comment as there will be horror fans in the forum who haven't seen it, it would be a shame if they knew going in.

Fair enough.  I actually should have included Terror Train in that list too, and maybe The Prowler.  Perhaps a Top 10 was too short. Oh well

The Burning and The Prowler are some of my favorites.  I can't wait to see the My Bloody Valentine remake, though, and it will be in 3D glory.  Limbs, blood, and boobs flying out of the screen at me!

There were 3-D boobs in Beowulf. It was like you could reach out and grab them.

Though as someone who respects women I didn't.

dude I love your pics! Firiday the 13th part 4 is a classic, I am so glad you put it on the list!
I have never seen The Burning, or heard of it, I am going to have to look into that!
Plus i have never Seen Silent Night Deadly Night or Sleepaway Camp! Are the sequels to Sleepaway camp any good either?

I defintley agree with your num 1 pic and num 2 pic they are two of my favorite! I havent seen Scream in so long I need to give it another watchin!

Over all GREAT selections!

The Burning isn't exactly anything exciting, but Tom Savini's FX (in the uncut version) are reason enough to watch it.  He opted out of doing Friday the 13th Part 2 to make that instead.  Sleepaway Camp was a little boring, and the sequels were more camp (excuse the pun) and dumb, so if you like that kinda thing you'll enjoy them.  Silent Night Deadly Night is interesting though, it makes an interesting comment on how punishment and certain emposing religions can turn children into psychos.  And there's lots of blood and boobs in it too!

If you fancy checking out some slashers, here's a quick overview of the ones I'd recommend (not including the ones above) and the ones I'd avoid like the plague!

WATCH THESE -
Alone in the Dark (1982)
April Fool's Day (1986)
Black Christmas (1974)
Return to Horror High (1987)
When a Stranger Calls (1979)

WORTH CONSIDERING -
Nightmare in a Damaged Brain (1981)
Maniac (1980)
The Boogeyman (1980)
Cherry Falls (2000)
Urban Legends (1998)
Dr. Giggles (1992)
The House on Sorority Row (1983)
Prom Night (1980)

AVOID AT ALL COSTS -
The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982)
Pieces (1981)

Hope that helps...

Dude you're awesome for those recommendations!!!!  Ihave seen April Fools Day and Return to Horror High! But none of those other ones. I absolutely love 80's horror flicks! I am going to watch all of those movies, even the ones you told me to avoid! ha ha

Thanks again!

No problem, but you have been warned about The Dorm That Dripped Blood... it doesn't even fall into the 'so bad it's good' category, it's basically a crap student film that somehow got a proper release... bad acting (yes, even for a slasher), lame plot, amateur FX and no suspense.  But if you want to see as many slashers as possible then I don't blame you for checking it out, just get it as cheap as possible

Happy Birthday To Me is worth a look.  It's kind of funny, though, it's got one of those endings that you can tell was really thrown in at the last minute.  But despite the logic problems, it's still a fun trip.

And I just caught the latest Sleepaway Camp sequel the other day.  It was pretty horrible.  The slasher side of it was more like a subplot, and the "twist" became pretty obvious very early on as to who the killer would be.  There were some good gags in it, though, but they were too few and far between.  Definitely goes into the "so bad it's good" category, but only barely.

I read some reviews for the latest Sleepaway Camp sequel last night and none of them were particularly favorable, so I guess I won't be rushing to watch it.  Problem is the original movie had a chock ending, and once that was revealed the story kinda became redundant

Happy Birthday To Me is one of those dvds I own that I look at occasionally and ponder, 'what on earth was I thinking buying this?'

The whodunit doesn't make sense on any level but there's something about the finale with everyone around the table that's totally classic.

Only watch if you're really into slasher movies.

Me, I bought it new online, region 2.

I think, and Christian may be able to clear this up, there are two different dvds with different soundtracks/scores, bizarrely enough. Apparently the newer score is rubbish.

But I'd put this pretty far down your list T.Ross, it aint amazing or anything.
