Sometimes to deflect a wild rumour about yourself, say about your sexuality, you might do something extreme to prove you’re not what everyone’s saying.
Tom Cruise is considering playing Hugh Hefner.
Cruise is apparently interested in bringing the ultimate lothario's “colourful life” to the screen in the upcoming biopic Playboy.
Hefner fought for his country in World War II and was only 27 when he launched Playboy in 1953. Hefner is 81 now, and it's not clear how 'old' Cruise will get over the course of the film.
Cruise certainly could bring depth to a seemingly shallow, but enviable, existence. But surely the actor has too much baggage to be taken seriously in the role?
Leonardo Di Caprio has, until now, been the name most strongly linked with the part, and it's much easier to imagine him doing it, especially as he's already proven himself playing Howard Hughes.
It's a shame that Brett Ratner is supposedly already signed to direct. He seems too brash and gratuitous a filmmaker for any sort of thoughtful biopic. I can well imagine him
staying at the Playboy mansion, I'm sure he has, but not making a motion picture there.
