Reports haven't been fully confirmed yet but it seems almost certain now -- To be confirmed when Dimension Films releases a press release in the next day or so -- that Rob Zombie will once again be behind the camera for HALLOWEEN 2. This news comes hot on the heels of reports that directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (The warped minds behind the horrifically awesome French import INSIDE) have parted ways with Dimension (and Trancas International) on the project.
Since the film is scheduled to begin shooting next March it leaves alot of unanswered questions regarding the whole matter -- Were Maury and Bustillo also writing the script? Will any part of that script be used? If not, is Zombie now working on his own script? Will it even be finished in time? Can he somehow figure out a way to bring back previous-victim (and sexy cutie) Danielle Harris as a naked zombie?
To be perfectly honest my only interest in this whole matter lies in that final question. I not only found Zombie's HALLOWEEN to be unnecessary but forgetful (Amongst such shrug-inducing re-imaginings as CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, THE BAD NEWS BEARS and THE OMEN). What was insulting was the fact that Zombie is well known true horror aficionado and chose o "re-do" such an iconic film as HALLOWEEN. His much ballyhooed efforts to give The Shape a back story seemed like it belonged in an entirely different film -- Since when did Michael Myers transform from a typical suburban kid to a trailer trash victim of abuse?
Still I remain a cockeyed optimist in this case with Zombie has proven himself to be a skilled director (particularly in THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) in the past. I would even recommend that he use the same hospital stalking scenario of the original HALLOWEEN 2 . . . After all it would be that much easier for a quick trip to the morgue for a quick visit with autopsy-bound Danielle Harris wearing only a toe tag.
