So that’s the official title after much speculation. Worth the wait?
Still no sign of the big monster, or the reported little ones that latch onto it.
A trailer that doesn’t show us anything. That’s so unusual these days it becomes newsworthy and it’s turned Cloverfield into one of the most hyped projects of the year. Back not so long ago, trailers were normally made this way. Check out the one for Jurassic Park -
Notice anything missing? Yeah, dinosaurs. (By the way also note Samuel L Jackson: “I can’t get Jurassic Park back on line motherfucker.”)
While Cloverfield is conceptually a very interesting idea, this trailer literally adds nothing on top of the teaser. Which hints that the film also has nothing much up its sleeve either beyond ‘Blair Witch Godzilla’.
From what we can see here, I don’t think they’re making particularly special use of the device. The shot choice isn’t inspiring, and the performances look bland. George Romero has shot his new zombie film in the same Blair Witch style. I’m starting to become much more interested in what he’s done with the gimmick than what Cloverfield seems to be up to.
