The remake is set to be produced by Strike's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman with Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and John Carpenter working as executive producers. No writer has been hired for the remake. The original film (considered a cult classic) followed a construction worker (wrestler Roddy Piper) who finds a pair of sunglasses that let him see aliens. The aliens have worked their way into society and are controlling humanity through subliminal messages. The movie was a typical Carpenter flick with lots of action sequences and classic lines – such as "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum." Yeah, I love the original too. It's one of those movies I thought I was the only person who liked it, until the internet was invented and slowly I realised there are others too.
As previously stated, I have no problems with remakes, only the wasted potential of the finished product (see The Fog). This one in particular seems like it could be turned into something special. The original certainly had slow patches, and dragged toward the end - it was far from perfect.

Yes I remake would be so different, it wouldnt have that 80s Carpetner vibe to it or Roddy Piper's bad acting, which was priceless!! The first did have its dragging points and I am really curious to see what will come of a remake of it!

When will Hollywood realise that NO ONE can remake Carpenter (see Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, The Fog). In fact, not even Carpenter can remake Carpenter! (Ghosts of Mars was a remake of Assault, and Escape From LA was basically a remake of Escape From New York). Back in the day the guy had style, and no modern filmmakers seem able to replicate that. So why bother?

Yeah what happened to Carpetner? So let me get this straight, I have never seen Ghost on Mars, so its a remake of Assault on Precinct 13?

Personally, I wouldn't call it a remake. There are similarities - It is a siege movie, so it's the same genre, and it does have the criminals teaming up with the cops to fend off a threat from outside. But the thing is set on Mars! I like the movie quite a bit, but no one else does.

Escape From LA is pretty poor. You can tell they had a lot of fun making it, and there are a lot of movie in-jokes, but it doesn't work as its own movie and the fx are pretty terrible (see the surfing scene).

This could work if they take a hard edged, cool approach to the premise. If they try to recapture the fun feel of the first one they'll fail.

Ghosts of Mars is basically Assault on Precinct 13 on Mars. It wasn't an official remake but it followed the same structure and even had similar characters, most notably the antihero prisoner, this time played by Ice Cube! I don't mind it but it's typical modern Carpenter.... average

Yeah with the Fog remake, another John Carpetner remaking his own, we could be in for crap. But I think I would still see the They Live remake, I wonder if they will take a more serious approach with the newer version.
