Mickey Rourke Wrestles with Iron Man

Little known fact: Rourke auditioned unsuccessfully for the lead role in Iron Man.

It looks like Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) is in talks to play a Russian villain in Iron Man 2. Rourke was the "it" boy in the late eighties, after his noteworthy performances in 9 1/2 Weeks and Angel Heart. Then, "bad behavior" and an attempt at a boxing career all but ruined his reputation in Hollywood. Then a geektastic turn as Marv in 2005's Sin City brought his name back to the public consciousness and the Oscar buzz over his official "comeback" role in The Wrestler is so loud it's hard to hear myself rejoicing over the other bit of casting news for this film.

Also in talks for another villainous role is Sam Rockwell (Choke).


Little known fact: Rockwell auditioned unsuccessfully for Mickey Rourke's life.

Both Rourke and Rockwell are commanding actors. Even if they are not cast in this film, it's exciting that Marvel is looking at actors of their caliber for this sequel. The thought of these two guys and Robert Downey Jr. eating up the screen together is just too exciting.
