Also, the fact that me and DJaws are on the same page when it comes to that movie should say A LOT.

Disappointed, yes. But I still enjoyed watching it, I was more gripped 40 minutes in than I probably have been to any movie this year. That's 40 minutes of sheer entertainment right there. There were a number of aspects after that I enjoyed too. I won't pretend I didn't.

If the movie had been as successful as it ought to have been it would have been at number 2, instead it's way down.

With about 5 exceptions it's been a bad/weak-sauce half year for film, competition for places on this list is not high.

Second half of the year is way stronger, sure. But man, Prometheus undermined itself every other scene...

Here's a subtle clue what the other movie might be -

I'll kill you to hell.

Watched:

Terminator - wife hadn't seen this or the sequel. She liked them both. I forgot how dated the first one is, the Arnie puppet is cheesy as hell and the acting is stilted throughout.

T2 - Wife loved it, as she should. Hadn't seen this movie in years, every scene is just pitch perfect, fun, and exciting. So damn good.

I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK - a romantic comedy by the guy that made Oldboy. It's bizarre and awesome.

I just realized Taylor Kitsch reminds me of James Franco, but like, if James Franco wasn't high. Anybody else get this vibe?

I can't imagine James Franco not high.

Dalmatian Jaws, why are you making your lovely wife watch a string of cyborg/robot movies?

City of God - Great.
Watchmen - Awful.
The Thin Red Line - Beautiful, but unwieldy.
Batman Begins - Very good.
The Dark Knight - Great.
The Dark Knight Rises - Very good.

I really can't stress enough that I genuinely don't consider them to be competing films. The Avengers is a colorful adventure about a superpowered team coming together to fight off an alien threat (like Star Trek 09) filled with banter, TDKR is about a man who voluntarily sacrificed the life he could have had and wishes to regain it (like The Bourne Ultimatum) with emphasis on pathos. The Avengers is more enjoyable, TDKR is more satisfying. The Avengers is a great standalone film, TDKR is a great ending to a trilogy. I've only seen each movie once, and if you put a gun to my head, I'd have to say I preferred Avengers, but TDKR tells a better story. Though again, they're just too different to REALLY merit comparison in my mind.

Too soon Williams.

Am planning to watch Monday evening. Made the mistake of popping onto the imdb message boards yesterday - entire film ruined by thread titles alone.

TDKR is a complete and total mess. The story meanders, the editing is confusing, the slew of new characters is head-spinning and it's down right BORING.

Nothing was spoiled in those IMDB threads, Sheridan. It's painfully obvious who JGL is from the get go and while you don't know a certain person's "true identity" it's obvious they are a badguy through the entire movie. The last 20 minutes of this film consist of PAINFUL "parlor room" scenes explaining a backstory no one gives a shit about.

Except for a few lines of dialog, the screenplay is pretty crap (and not all the dialog is good). The acting and cinematography are phenomenal of course. But the screenplay and editing (almost) ruin it. I was pretty bored and detached the whole way through. Most of the film is people talking about the past. It's like visiting Grandma's house but with more explosions.

Really really liked Batman Begins, LOVE The Dark Knight.

I didn't hate TDKR, but it really wasn't put together well. Great parts, poorly put together. Kind of like Hellboy 2. Felt a LOT like Hellboy 2, actually, in a strange way. I kept watching scenes going "this looks great, the acting is great ... but it doesn't feel right, it's too clipped and hurried and self important"

Every single one of my offline friends has said they were disappointed by the film.

I haven't seen it yet, and no one has said this to me, but it does seem strange that the last third of Batman Begins was about The League Of Shadows trying to destroy Gotham, and this plot is entirely about The League Of Shadows trying to destroy Gotham. With so many villains and plots in the Batman universe, why do they have to repeat themselves in a such a major way?
