I don't understand why 330 members have joined and about 300 of them never said a word. What's the point? The whole forum is open anyway. So we have lots of folk reading, which is fine, but - Anyone got a clever plan for getting more members who participate? Is there some source on the internet?

So we've got 'threatening their life with Mafia goons', superb. I was wondering if movie-moron could team up with another forum or two which cover different subjects (eg games and sports) and maybe cross-link. Anyone else got other suggestions?

Megan did exactly that one once, but alas it didn't work. Good thinking though.

Speaking of Megan what happened to her? She is the one who referred me to this forum.

It's tough. I'm not sure what works. I refer as many people as I can. But honestly, I hate forums. I'm 27, been on the internet since I was 15, and this is the first one I've ever joined.

I'd never joined one either.
Don't worry everyone, I know Tyler Lovemark's got a plan.

I'm still here. I've got quite a few B movie reviews just sitting around, just haven't put them up yet.
But on to my master plan. It wouldn't be a master plan if anyone but myself was aware of its specifics. It's also my justification for getting a big intimidating leather chair to sit in.

Does this plan somehow involve wearing goat heads and sacrificing T.Ross on an altar?

Sacarfice T.ROSS? !!??? That would be sacrilegious!!!!! You would got to hell for that! Dont drag Mr. Lovemark into your satanic rituals, just because you worship Satan doesnt give you the right to try convert others into eternal damnation! I heard it is pretty hot down there! Mr. Lovemark if Sheridan tries to lure into a private B-movie screening, its probaly a well thoughtout trick to get you to do something evil!! Dont fall for it! -T.ROSS PRODUCTIONS AND GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

I actually have never really posted in forums except for aintitcoolnews. The infamous 'talkbacks'. I'm usually not for discussion boards, but I like this one because of the civility. However, the lack of it might be the very reason that aicn is so popular. I also think it's the design. I actually said this to Sheridan in an email, I'm really surprised that no other board has come along to steal their thunder in all this time on these here internets. I guess part of it is the personalities having become so big outside of aicn (and, let's face it, in their own heads) - Harry, Quint, Mori, Vern, etc. But the design itself, where each box is legible, has the minimum necessary to identify the poster and having it be the same all the way down on the same page makes it very easy to go back and forth with somebody on there.
And I'm not saying that as a criticism of this board or any other (I do like dvxuser.com, as a filmmaker), but just that I think that is what makes that board so successful. Their way of going from front page to article and then into the actual TB seems really simple and almost kind of stupid at the same time for a newbie, but then it becomes addicting. It's like the path of least resistance for the user.
Other than that, I think it's just finding a niche that goes beyond just movies, something that movie lovers want online but aren't getting at other sites. Either that or it's something that's not done as well at other sites.
One last thing about aicn, though, I think there are a number of people ready to jump ship to the next site that even REMOTELY resembles the talkbacks and has something resembling regular scoops and features like Quint's 'movie-a-day' column. There's just so much BS over there now that it's nearly impossible to ignore if you consider yourself even remotely intelligent.
That's my two cents on the subject! My intention wasn't just to bump this, I really think it's an important discussion. I'm also referring as many people as I can, and once I get the site up for my film, I'm going to specifically mention this site on the blog. Hopefully some people listen... if I even get any traffic!

I'm here to help but as the general consensus is, its hard to know where to begin. I like it here and love how everyone can view their opinions and it not turn into a flame war

Link to the forums in every other article that you write. Make sure it's topics that have already been commented on, possible entertaining ones. That way if people click the link and read the thread it'll make them want to respond, especially if they're already registered. Not to mention putting links to the forum in articles and features is a constant reminder that the forum is there, so you get more people joining too.

I used to do that. You would think it would work, buuut it didn't. Just having them click through to a conversation isn't enough, there needs to be something more. Forums are notoriously hard.

Yeah, for years we've been toying with the idea of a 'babes' section. I just don't know if I can face the shame.
