I've become more and more interested in box office results. They tell you whether you're likely to get sequels to your favourite movies, or whether a particular sub genre is about to be flooded with copycats.
But here are the weekend's results for the
rest of the world. What flies in America isn't neccessarily liked elsewhere, and vice versa.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/weekend/?yr=2009&wk=5&p=.htmYou can see here what a massive star Jim Carrey still is worldwide ($100m for Yes Man) and what a star Seth Rogen
isn't ($14m for Pineapple Express).
No one cares about Hannah Montana ($5m), 'W.' is a horrible bomb ($3m), Punisher even worse ($1m), and T.Ross's favourite movie Black Christmas is
still on release in a couple of territories.
Check out Mamma Mia's numbers. And how well John Woo's Red Cliff: Part I has done.
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa made almost the same amount as The Dark Knight.
