I've become more and more interested in box office results. They tell you whether you're likely to get sequels to your favourite movies, or whether a particular sub genre is about to be flooded with copycats.
But here are the weekend's results for the rest of the world
. What flies in America isn't neccessarily liked elsewhere, and vice versa.http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/weekend/?yr=2009&wk=5&p=.htm
You can see here what a massive star Jim Carrey still is worldwide ($100m for Yes Man) and what a star Seth Rogen isn't
($14m for Pineapple Express).
No one cares about Hannah Montana ($5m), 'W.' is a horrible bomb ($3m), Punisher even worse ($1m), and T.Ross's favourite movie Black Christmas is still
on release in a couple of territories.
Check out Mamma Mia's numbers. And how well John Woo's Red Cliff: Part I has done.
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa made almost the same amount as The Dark Knight.
