After the success of Transformers and the upcoming blockbusters GI Joe and Tintin, who can blame the studios for deciding that if they remake any and all children's cartoons from the 80s they will turn a tidy profit. Well, next up on Warner Brothers’ live-action chopping block is The Adventures of Johnny Quest.
IESB has some early news
Traditionally Jonny Quest has been a 12 year old boy in need of a caretaker (Race Bannon), that goes on fantastic adventures hence the name The Adventures of Jonny Quest.
But, with the new adaptation of the story, it looks like WB may be taking the story in somewhat of a different direction upping the age of the lead character by a year or five.
Instead of the traditional 12 year old Quest, it looks like we may be seeing a 17-18 year old Quest in the form of High School Musical star Zac Efron. That's right, Zac Efron, with Dwayne Johnson as his Race Bannon.
Got one more for you, who is IESB hearing WB wants at the helm of this Jonny Quest ship? Andy Fickman.
Fickman and Johnson recently collaborated on Race to Witch Mountain for Disney coming this March to theaters and The Game Plan as well back in 2007.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a version of Johnny Quest in the 90s where he was a bit more grown up? The New Adventure of Johnny Quest I think it was called. They obviously made it work there so I have no problem with an age change, besides if they want to do a straight action film they can't have a whiny twelve year old running around for the whole movie. Much better to have a whiny eighteen year old played by the High School Musical guy.
I can't say that I have seen The Game Plan, and Race to Witch Mountain hasn't been released yet so I can't really comment on the choice of director but I will say that I find Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to be solidly watchable so I can't fault that casting choice.
