Yes, there's even more news from last night's screening of The Last House on the Left, where we were told by numerous individuals that if the film performs well, they will in fact fast-track a sequel. Another project still alive and well is Craven's remake of The People Under the Stairs, which we're told they're close to signing a director. "The script is looking very promising," explaining that whomever directs the movie will decide what type of tone the remake will have. "We’ll find the director and see his or her take on it really.” Both People Under the Stairs and Shocker remakes are still over at Universal Pictures. The People Under the Stairs is the story of a young boy (Fool) from the ghetto and takes place on his 13th birthday. In an attempted burglary (along with two others) of the home of his family's evil landlords, he becomes trapped inside their large suburban house and discovers the secret of the "children" that the insane brother and sister have been "rearing" under the stairs. Hills Have Eyes 2 all over again.
I didn't like The People Under the Stairs, it was dull from premise to execution.

Why would you even want to remake Last House, never mind make a sequel to it? Goddamn it, lay off the remakes and make something original again

It was defintley good! the acting was ok, I guess I just compared the killers in the first too much to the new ones but the kill scenes make up for any fault in the movie! Are you going to see it?

It's not high on my priority list. I saw the original and enjoyed the Wes Craven commentary more than the movie. I'll see it on dvd at some point.

So are there two incompetant cops with their own irritating theme tune in the Last House remake like there was in the original? Craven tries to make some tense and realistic film about rape and revenge and then sticks Laurel and Hardy in it. The guy has no idea about consistency

I think TRoss means they weren't in the remake, which they weren't.
But you're right, the bumbling cops were SO out of place. Kind of gives the movie some character in my opinion. Very dated and quaint, but definitely not "good" in any type of critical sense.
It's interesting to read interviews with Craven, he states he knows the original isn't actually that great. He had just transitioned from being a professor so he was more interested in the theme, he didn't know how to make a movie. And stated he liked the changes they made in the remake.

I haven't seen or intend to watch the new version as I hate both Last House and remakes so that's probably not a good mix, lol. But I definitely see what you're saying about Craven's transition from lecturer to filmmaker not being an easy one. He started out as an editor and then made his directorial debut with Last House, no short films or TV or anything. Unfortunately, while I feel The Hills Have Eyes is a million times better it's still not great, it took him a few films to find his style, 1984's Elm Stree, and he's been copying that ever since

Yeah thats what I was saying. So Mr. Sellers, do you not like the original Last House? If not, what is about it that you dont like? Everything. It's an amateur and a pointless exercise in exploitation. People try and preach on about how confrontational and important it is. It's smut. Read the inlay of the Anchor Bay DVD and you'll see excerpts of the original draft, it was designed purely to disgust. But to be honest it fails as far as I'm concerned. I just find it borning. He's made far better films than this one and I have given it a few attempts, it just doesn't appeal to me. But each to their own...
