Naomi Watts and Freida Pinto to star in next Woody Allen flick

Hot off her starring role in the Oscar magnet Slumdog Millionaire, Freida Pinto has been cast in Woody Allen's latest project (which if this year is anything to go by practically guarantees her an Academy Award in 12 months time).

Variety has the story:

This year's Cinderella at the Oscar ball will join the long list of Allen's muses as she takes on the ingenue role in the helmer's still-untitled pic.

Naomi Watts has also signed on to star in the film, joining the already-announced Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins.

Pinto, who has become one of the most pursued thesps since her breakout performance in "Slumdog," signed with CAA in November and began mulling projects. Allen's film will mark the first post-"Slumdog" pic for the Indian-born model-turned-actress.

Though not nominated for an Oscar, Pinto's performance was a large part of what gave Slumdog Millionaire its appeal. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how she does in this role. She's going to have to act her pants off if she wants to be taken seriously along side Hopkins and Brolin, hopefully she can pull it off.

You should go back and and watch some of his older stuff (if you haven't already) Annie Hall, Manhattan etc. His new stuff tends to be a little dark and creepy for me.
