Top 3 DVDs in Your Collection

What are your three favorites out of your collection. Can be because they're rare, expensive, awesome, or just your favorite film.

Here are mine, in no particular order.

1. Dawn of the Dead - the four disk set.
Oh man, what a great movie and so cool there are FOUR versions of the film.

2. Troll 2
The best worst film ever made. Hands down. I love that I own this movie, but it only comes as a "double feature" with Troll 1, which is just plain bad, not good bad, and has nothing to do with the sequel.

3. Grilled
I love this one because it's the one no one has heard of. It stars Ray Romano and Kevin James, but it's a sick, twisted dark comedy about two meat salesmen that get involved with the Jewish mafia. Peopple look at it and I ask them if they want to borrow it. They just shake their head and slide it back on the shelf, but it's really good!

The Dark Knight
It's the only Blu-ray I own that truly feels 'next-gen'. The others are just too close to dvd. The opening shot across the cityscape - if you've never seen it, those ten seconds will open your eyes to the future.

Swingers
If you're not in the mood for going out and socialising, watching twenty minutes of this will change your mind.

Granny
Because it's the dvd I've owned the longest without ever watching. I also never plan to. Here's the link. And before you ask, I don't plan on getting the sequel, Granny 2: Warlock's Blood.

1. Withnail and I - I watch this movie way too much, more than anything I own but I cant help myself its hilarious and never gets old. If I had to get rid of every single DVD I own except for just one, this would be it.

2. Reservoir Dogs - Favorite Tarantino film, what more can I say that most people here dont know its just fucking great.

3. How to get Ahead in Advertising - Another Bruce Robinson & Richard E Grant film, just so ridiculous and funny its great I love having movies barely anyone has seen and forcing them to watch it. Just got this dvd today so my brothers in for an interesting hour and a half tonight.

Withnail And I is a great movie. Kind of subtle at first, doesn't seem that special, but by the end it feels like you've just watched a work of Shakespeare or something. It has a strange effect.

Richard E Grant never lived up to his potential after that. His agent should be ashamed of himself. Spice Girls The Movie was the next time I saw him.

1. Cloverfield - i got it in a sweet metal box that looks like it was recovered from a rampaged-up central park. so meta.

2. Iron Man - wow, second movie on the list that only came out last year, and again it's because of the box. Iron Man cardboard slipcase with a circle cut out for the power-thingamy in his chest, and when you take it off...IT'S TONY STARK WITH A POWER THINGAMY IN HIS CHEST! Simple, but effective.

3. The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford - again with the great box! it's the r2 collectors edition, slipcase has guns underneath, there's a little book inside. awesome.

Sheridan and Tori, get on Amazon and buy Richard E. Grant's semi-autobiography "With Nails." You won't regret it and you'll understand a LOT more about his career path.

I've been wanting to see "How to Get Ahead" for awhile now.

Funny enough I actually have it and am reading it now! Just picked it up a few days ago at the library.
Im up to the Warlock chapter, its a great book so far I also have Withnail & I: Everything You Ever Wanted To Know But Were Too Drunk To Ask but havent gotten around to reading it yet, thats next. I think I may have an obsession.

You really should see How to Get Ahead in Advertising, I love it.

Seriously? Wah-wah? That's a made up word that my cousins used growing up. To this day, when we all get together, we'll randomly burst into bouts of shouting "WAH WAH" for no reason.  How bizarre.

Disneys Robin Hood - I actually got it autographed by Floyd Norman, one of the animators.  Have that is a shadow box and the movie has never been opened.  One of my favorite Disney movies as a kid.

Boondock Saints - Who cannot love watching this movie, always been a great movie with great lines.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly - The is a perfect western classic, Clint Eastwood is just awesome in this

Mine would have to be:

1. Alien - Because for me its the very definition of Sci-Fi Horror and filmmaking

2. Weird Science - My guilty throwback pleasure, Paxton and Downey Jr on top form and a quote fest that still makes me chuckle every time.

3. The Birds - Because if you ever want to know how to create suspense and play with a characters emotions then this is the film for you.

Alien really is incredible.

I always get Weird Science confused with Real Science. Love Real Science, never seen Weird Science.

I have a great poster of The Birds and have met Tippi Hedrin (sp?) and love Rod Taylor and A.D.O.R.E. Hitchcock but you know what? I really don't like The Birds that much.  I love it up til the end, when they're in a house, and for no reason she decides to go upstairs. According to legend, Tippi told Hitchcock there was NO reason for her character to go upstairs to investigate a strange noise. And Hitchcock told her, "You'll go upstairs, because I TOLD you to."

THEN! The birds just take a break and the heroes drive away!  Seriously! I mean it's Happening and War of the Worlds! 

Okay, but I will say, the entire first and second acts are utterly brilliant. Including the famous "crows on the playground" scene.

I literally own NO Hitchcock films. I have no idea why, I worship the man ... I think I just need the right boxed set to come along ...

I always get Weird Science confused with Real Science.

That's why I failed biology.

dnwill, if you havn't seen it, rent ROPE ... hands down my favorite Hitchcock. Maybe not his best, but very good and SUCH a cool way to film that story!

dalmatianjaws, thats why i love The Birds so much, for me the whol eattack of the birds needs no reason, it just did and it ended how it started, so its perfectly mirrored. agree that Tippi didn't really need to go upstairs but then after the rest fo the movie I'll forgive that. :-)

And you met Tippi Hedren? thats awesome, was she nice?

and Rope is a great film, how they edited those 3 shots together is class, even today.

Hitchcock is my favourite director, hands down. Psycho is my #1, with Vertigo either #2 or #3. The Birds I found somewhat of a disappointment, I just thought neither of the leads were particularly engaging, especially when compared to the previous titles, and it hadn't aged as well. The story didn't seem as 'tight'. There's a hell of a lot to admire in it, but let's face it open endings are the easiest way for a screenwriter to exit a story.
