Reasons why this list is wrong:

Why this episode is awesome, a list:

1. Nadia's married. Even in the alt timeline, Nadia and Said can't be together. He's doomed.
- No one gives a shit.

2. BADASS SAYID VS DOGEN FIGHT! HELLS YEAH! SAYID USED A BROOMSTICK!
- Who the fuck is Dogen and why do I care if he fights Sayid?

3. Sayid has a break-your-arm reflex for when his brother wakes him up, and also knows that it's 02:30 in the morning without checking a clock - he's just that badass!
- So does your mom.

4. In both timelines, someone is asking Sayid to kill for them.
- That's called Creative Writing 101. Good to know at least one of the writing staff went to college.

5. Jack flitted past in the hospital where Sayid's brother was, echoing the path-crossings of Season 1.
- See Fringe, the rest of LOST, or many other, better, sci-fi/fantasy shows/movies for examples of this.

6. Crazy Claire.
 - Meh. She was boring then and she's boring now. Get back to the "This Baby is DOOOOOMED" stuff please.

7. UnLocke pulling a knife out of his chest and temptation-of-christing Sayid.
- ... ... ... you're right.

8. Sayid's "I can't be with you because I don't deserve you". Man tears.
- I'll show you man tears, get over here.

9. Evil Claire
- Wrong twice.

10. I MAKE GOOD EGGS.
- Your mom makes go- ok it's getting old.

11. Oh snap, the money in Jin's suitcase was Keamy's money!
- Who the fuck is keamy and why does his name sound like a clown from a children's tv show that was arrested for molestation?

12. The smoke monster attack.
- Agreed.

Keamy is Kevin Durand, the guy with the dead man's trigger who killed Ben's daughter when he came to The Island for Widmore. The guy that makes good eggs. Dogen is the Japanese dude that runs the Temple. And that fight was epic. None of you 'reasons' really qualify as reasons, but whatever.

Maybe you'll enjoy the Ben episode because we haven't seen much of him. It's supposed to be the best since the Locke-centric one. And the episode after the one after that - Richard. Richard Alpert.  Grin

Also, point 13, to Sayid, he shot Ben as a child like 24 Hrs ago. Dude's lost it, and he keeps losing it, at the beginning he's all "I'm a good man" twenty minutes later HE KILLS EVERYONE.

Meh.

the problem with this season is that there's no craft to these things. Nothing builds, nothing progresses to a climax.  Sayid just bitches and moans and nothing happens, then in the last five minutes he kills people.

The alternate timeline is fanboy titillation, not storytelling.  "LOOK! This bad guy and this good guy teach school together! Doesn't that just fuck with your mind!!!!!"

No, it doesn't, cause it serves no purpose. Mildly cool since I love the characters, but I love the characters because of seasons 1, half of 2, and 4 and 5 when you TOLD STORIES WITH THEM rather than just throw them into random situations you thought were cool but weren't.

They need to get back to telling a story (ala season 5) or they're headed off into syndication with a wimper, but a bang (ala season 5)

I think it's way more than 'look how weird this is' though. There' DEFINITELY an element of that, and I won't deny that it appeals to me, but showing how these character's lives would have been had the island not been involved is insightful as far as I'm concerned. The same storytelling device worked for Dickens and Capra...

Read that when they published it. May have even commented. Needless to say I disagree, though I'm not surprised the technique is so divisive.

I don't think it's the technique but the lack of it. Meaning, they don't use the device to tell story, they just use it to supply fanboy masturbafodder (I made that up cause it's faster than typing fodder for masturbation. Get it?)

It's the content that's lacking, so it's not really a storytelling technique. They have a cool idea but aren't filling it with story, just random moments that tell us things about our characters we already know. At least for the first six episodes. I haven't watched past that.

You make a good point, I recognise that I'm partial to fanboy masturbafodder. If that's the way you feel about it you'll enjoy the Desmond episode, episode 11. I can almost guarantee it. Also, episode nine is a traditional flashback episode. For Richard Alpert.

Dear Lost,

Thank you for the Richard Alpert flashback episode. It actually told a story. Like in the old days of season one and most parts of season five. Please keep it up and pull out of this nose dive commonly known as season six.

Thanks in advance, but don't let me down.

- Dalmatianjaws

PS, the fracking scene with him and his dead wife and Hurley ... oh man.

Toldyaso.

I've liked most of the season, that was definitely a highlight.

From what I hear it's a blip on the radar. Uber fans are jumping ship, even.

A graph is science. And you're not allowed to question science.

So what you're saying is you're Jack (Man of Science) and I'm Locke (Man of Faith).

Anyway, I don't know that viewing figures reflect the quality of the episode. I'm sure there were a bunch of people at the beginning of the season who hadn't watched since season two but figured they'd try to get back into it only to learn they'd missed flash forwards, time travel and were now into side-flashes and gave up.

I'm up to The Candidate now.  With Sun an Jin "dead" I think it's clear, at the end, the alternate universe will move on, or the will "re-merge" and they'll go on living happily ever after.

I've thought that the universes would have to merge somehow from the outset, but became convinced once Desmond started doing what he's doing in the sideways. No season regulars in the next episode, should feel a bit like the Richard one.

The deaths in The Candidate were devastating.
