Sorry, I kinda fell out of watching this year.  I really love the one where Desmond is bouncing back and forth in time within his own head.

then i'm shocked you fell off the wagon what with all the time travel at the beginning of this season! there hasn't really been a stand-out episode, but there have been great little moments - like sawyer saying his s.o.b's over time and space Smiley

If, when it's done, people say the ending and explanation made perfect sense, then I'll watch the series from the beginning.

I made it about four episodes into season 5 and just wasn't into it like I was season 4. and I ADORE time travel stuff.

Still, I've got it on the netflix cue cause I hear it ends well. And at this point I'm committed. After a phenomenal 1st season and suffering the the season 3 fiasco, I just have to see how it ends.

Without telling me, do they know yet WHY they're on the island, and what the island is?

If you watch the the first ten seconds of the second promo I embedded you'll answer your own question, but the short answer is no. Why they're on the island will be answered, what the island is I highly doubt, and seriously hope not. That's like asking 'What is the force?', you know what it does, and that's enough. You do not want to know about midichlorians, it ruins it. It's The Island, that's it. The creators of the show have used that example.

I hear it ends well.

Understatement. You've doubtless had it spoiled by now...

Actually, no, I know nothing about it!  I'm excited. I really love the premise and the characters, but man they've had some loooooooow points in the jumbled story.

I did watch the promos before I replied, but I don't know the subtleties of the series as it's gone on, maybe everyone kinda knows the jist already.

No, they really are clueless. I could tell you more about HOW clueless, but that would spoil stuff.

I really liked the 2nd and 3rd seasons but lost interest halfway through the 4th one. I always liked the flashbacks better than the bits actually on the island though.

I can't really see how they can come up with a satisfying ending, has anyone seen The Prisoner before? I think they should do something like that for the last episode, basically don't try and explain everything, leave it to interpretation. Anything too precise will be a let down as just about every possibility has already been guessed by someone at some point.

Saying that, when The Prisoner finished the way it did there was absolute outrage from a lot of fans. I think the fact that it didn't try to explain everything is why people still love it though.

The fourth season was way better than season three. They were stuck in cages for the beginning of season 3 and they had that episode that explained Jack's tattoos. If you haven't already check out the season four episodes The Constant and The Economist, twaddington.

They're definitely going to have to have some ambiguity in the finale, and they've essentially stated that they want to, whilst at the same time addressing all the core mysteries.

The season premier was glorious, by the way.

Ambiguity is a cop out. It's lazy screenwriting. If they didn't have a great answer from the beginning they shouldn't have posed the question.

Ambiguity is a cop out.

No. It's not. You sound like you've never read a good book.

It's much easier to answer a question with ambiguity than it is come up with something definitive that wows people.

I think it's easier to come up with something definitive that wows half the audience than something ambiguous that satisfies a larger portion and keeps them talking about it for decades to come. Hamlet wouldn't be one of the best plays ever if Shakespeare made it clear whether or not the Dane was mad.

I think I heard about 3 lyrics of that video because I was distracted by the awesome that is Giacchino's music!

It's pretty clear that Hamlet is feigning madness, as he says at one point that's how you get people to let their guard down and speak the truth without worrying you're in the room. And that question is not really the main focus of the play, whereas the whole of Lost is based on a question.

Wait a minute, are we comparing Lost to Hamlet??
