It looks as though Fox isn't done with their Fantastic Four franchise just yet, but instead of green lighting another sequel they have decided to go for a complete reboot, starting again from scratch. IESB has the story With Daredevil already getting the once over and Planet of the Apes also in the running for a new start with a prequel in the works Fantastic Four is joining the reboot gang.
The two films previously released never really caught on with the fans and the studio is reportedly looking to completely retool, recast and recrew the franchise. This means no Tim Story, no Iaon, no Julian (thank the maker, he never sat well with me as Dr. Doom), no Chris, no Chiklis and no Jessica.
The first Fantastic Four in 2005 pulled in over $330 million worldwide and the second film, Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, opened in 2007 with a total box office take of $290 million. Both made money and were commercial successes but the reviews were lackluster and the fan reaction was mediocre. This time around they are going for a more serious tone, following the lead of such films as The Dark Knight and Iron Man. Personally I don't think this is a good idea, these kind of reboots so soon after the original films tend to leave fans disappointed and newcomers confused. Take the recent Incredible Hulk reboot which took less at the box office than Ang lee's original Hulk (hardly a box-office smash to begin with) this was largely due to people not knowing what to make of the new film. What do you think about this idea? Did you enjoy the original's campy fun or would you prefer a grittier take on the source material? Source: IESB

i'm all for a reboot, simply because the first two were so lacklustre and the source material deserves better, but a 'grittier' approach? not so much. ff has never been gritty. then again, i don't consider the iron man movie to be, so if that's what they mean by a change of tone then all well and good.
i'd love to see an abrams or a verbinski on this project, someone who makes cartoonish action feel somehow acceptable

I feel sorry for Chris Evans (The Human Torch) and Chiklis (The Thing), they could easily have handled a much darker take on the FF and done it well.

This is great news! yeah they were decently cast, chiklis is obviously a good actor and evans was decent in danny boyle's sunshine. but they couldn't have got mr fantastic and the invisible woman more wrong...if this had been the first marvel studios movie instead of iron man we probably would've had george clooney and gwyneth paltrow cast....

The ONLY piece I've seen from these movies is Mr. Fantastic doing a stretchy arms dance with two hot girls, and I threw up a little in my mouth.

I definitely agree about Chris Evans. He's one of the few young actors who I think has a nice blend of good looks, charm and talent. But he's so much better off not having to ever deal again with such a cinematic skidmarks as THE FANTASTIC FOUR films.

Alba said that in the third movie she wanted to have a baby with Mr. Fantastic. Looks like that won't happen now.

Egads! Imagine the lame humor we would've ended up having to suffer through involving Elastobaby! Definitely dodged a bullet there!!!

franklin richards = elastobaby?!?!?!?! nuh-uh! although i agree they would've handled the storyline as half-heartedly as they did everything else...like a superhuman look who's talking or something

No, but it was around the time she got pregnant in real life so it was obviously on her mind. Thinking of the audience as usual.
