Disney laid the Smackdown on Warner Brothers this weekend with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's kiddie adventure The Race to Witch Mountain pinning Watchmen down for the three count.

The People's Champion bulldozed his way through the costumed crusaders with a respectable opening gross of $25 million. Zack Snyder's jabronie's fell away into second place, losing a massive sixty seven percent from opening grosses to earn a paultry $18 million. You think it matters how faithful your adaptation is, Snyder? IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAITHFUL YOUR ADAPTATION IS!

The People's Elbow saw horror remake The Last House on the Left take third place with a none-too-shabby $14 million.

All together now... IF YA SMEEEELLLLL...

Never count out the kids movies. They always crush at the box-office.

A drop from 1st to 2nd after the first week isn't too bad. As long as it can hold on for a few more weeks.

$80-90m

Compared to Watchmen's $55m.

Does it open in the UK the same time it opens in the US?

Wolverine? According to imdb it opens in the UK 2 days before the States (April 29). Very unusual for a film of this type.

It depends on the reviews. Early word out of Fox was that it was a disaster and they were figuring out how to sell it.

Aww I was hoping it would be good. I haven't seen a movie in theaters since Marley and Me (against my will) but would have seen that opening night...

They have done some reshoots since then, so who knows... There will be plenty of reviews before opening night anyway.

It's pretty clear Watchmen isn't for everyone, so it's rolling the dice there. I liked it, the majority of the cinema around me hated it. It's just a bit slow in the second half and they don't convey what it all means at the end especially well.

Well I dont know of it is like this in your town, but after a movie is done with the big theaters, it goes to a cheaper one, where the tickets are only $2.50.

Here is the website for our theater like that, it is called The Palace, Friday Teh 13th will be here shortly.

They also play midnight movies, old classics.
