One of the more up-and-coming young actresses around today is the wonderful Emily Blunt. Having made a name for herself in a supporting role in 'The Devil Wears Prada' she has recently received uniformly glowing reviews as the title role in The Young Victoria. A few weeks ago it seemed she was going to make the leap to full on blockbusters as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 but it now seems that isn't the case.
MTV has the story
As it turned out, Blunt indeed landed what could be her breakout role, except it won’t be alongside Marvel’s Tony Stark in “Iron Man 2,” but rather with Jack Black in Fox’s “Gulliver’s Travels.” In a conversation with MTV News, Blunt spoke out about having to drop out of “Iron Man” because of a scheduling conflict with “Gulliver’s.”
“It was one of things that was conflicting,” Blunt told MTV News. “So it’s a shame the two of them couldn’t work together. It just got complicated, so I think I had to pull out for my own sanity more than anything.”
Pulling out meant leaving behind the opportunity to work with co-stars like Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson and Mickey Rourke, as well as the chance to take part in what will surely be one of 2010’s most anticipated movies. The fate of “Gulliver’s” is somewhat more uncertain, although that adaptation of the classic Jonathan Swift tale comes with its own pedigree. In addition to Black, the film stars one of the hottest actors in comedy, Jason Segel, and will be helmed by “Monsters vs. Aliens” writer/director Rob Letterman.
I'm not going to lie, I would have enjoyed seeing Blunt don the Black Widow costume and fighting Iron Man but I'm sure she must have had good reason to choose Gulliver's. Over the past few months a lot of worrying news has been coming out about the Iron Man sequel (actors dropping out or being underpaid etc.) so it's entirely possible she just doesn't want to waste time acting in an uncertain project.
