I'm with you there Sheridan, i thought it came across as progressively more arrogant as it went on. More a bunch of 'cool' action and 'emoting' scenes thrown together.

Oh I didn't say that, I haven't even seen it. I thought MI:3 was pretty smug, so I'm kinda expecting the same here. Who knows...

i'm yet to see it (tomorrow's the day) and it does look like it ripped off star wars hard, but a new hope has a pretty ubiquitous plotline, and as much as i enjoyed that video and appreciate what dalmationjaws says (and know it's not entirely a criticism) you could make pretty much the same comparison for superman, the matrix, the lord of the rings etc. you'd just have to be more reductive about how you put it. and essentially putting in iconography similar to the sar wars films can't help but make is feel like an imitation

great movie! they recycled the star trek hyperspace gag though. that and the superman returns credits, which weren't exactly cool to begin with.

Just saw it. Very good. First hour was tremendous.
Like Dark Knight, it peaks too early. The various sequences being intercut around the destruction of Vulcan are far more exciting than the finale. Come on Hollywood, pacing!! And Simon Pegg was shit, he can only play himself, awful character actor. And what the hell was up with Uhura and Spock, was she dropping 'e' off screen or something? I know screenplay school now teaches you to have rounded bad guys characters, but stop giving them such sympathetic circumstances that you feel sorry for them when they get killed - make them a bad guy. And Kirk being thrown off the ship (just so he could find Old Spock) was so contrived. Although not as contrived as him finding Spock in the first cave he ran into. Couldn't Old Spock have watched the destruction of his home planet from the Romulan ship, Princess Leia watched it from deck, why on earth would they beam him down?
Did anyone else get weirdly emotional when Old Spock called Young Captain Kirk "Jim"?
