Dreamworks' kid-friendly war movie
Monsters Vs Aliens stomped its way into pole position in the box office this weekend, pulling in a respectable $58 million in the opening weekend. Even more impressive: around 56% of that ($32 million) was from the 3-D screens supporting the film, making this the biggest opening weekend for a 3-D film EVER. YOU HAVE JUST WITNESSED HISTORY.
The Haunting in Conneticut opened in second place with $23 million, while Nicolas Cage-starred armageddon flick
Knowing slipped into third, losing 40% gross with $14 million. Pocket change, really.
In fourth place was
I Love You Man, shedding only 29% to gather $12 million, while Julia Roberts and Clive 'Christ I Wish He Was Bond' Owen's
Duplicity dunked 46% with $7 million.
And that, as they say, is that.
