Having struck gold with the Da Vinci Code and hoping to do so again with Angels And Demons, Columbia have already secured the film rights to a third Dan Brown novel featuring everyone's favorite symbologist Robert Langdon. The novel will be called 'The Lost Symbol' and has apparently been completed though it isn't scheduled to hit bookstores until the 15th of September.

today, Variety announced that the studio has secured the rights and has begun work on adapting the yet to be released 3rd Langdon adventure/mystery novel following after DA VINCI CODE and ANGELS & DEMONS. The novel will his mid-September.

At the reporting of this news it is unknown whether Tom Hanks would want to complete a Langdon trilogy... or if Ron Howard is up for it either. Such things will most likely be negotiated after the box office of ANGELS & DEMONS is tallied. We'll have to wait and see. I found the first film a little lacking, but I'm hearing really good things about this new one.

When I read Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code novels, I remember thinking that they would work better as films than novels. Seeing as they are essentially races/chases through grand locations interspersed with the occasional action set-piece, I thought that formula would work better on screen than on the page. However, I found the Da Vinci Code movie to be quite dull in execution, I have higher hopes for Angels and Demons (the better of the two novels in my opinion) and if this third novel in the saga is anywhere near as successful as the first two then I am certain we will see a speedy, hopefully well made, adaptation.

Do Tom Hanks and Ron Howard believe they're making great movies, or is it purely a numbers game? That's how it seems...

Sigh, why did Michael Crichton have to die and Dan Brown stay alive?

I saw the Da Vinci Code and it was not a good movie. Far too much exposition, repetitive and a ridiculous ending.

Ill be honest, not a huge fan of Da Vinci Code. It wasnt that good compared to Angels and Demons. I am super excited to see that movie. I am hoping that the Angels and Demons movie will be better than the da vinci code. But i hear rumors that Dan Browns new book is about Free Masons, is this true? I would be very intrested to read about free masons considering our founding fathers were free masons. But i think there needs to be more movies about the illumaniti though. Eyes wide shut was good, but we can do better.

Good to see you here Sir Collin. I don't know if it's about the Free Masons, Dom may know. The Tomb Raider movie was about the Illuminate, isn't that enough?

I read ten pages of The DaVinci Code and laughed SO hard. It's horrible. Extreme overuse of useless adjectives, ridiculous plot, the whole thing hinges on decoding an old language that's actually ENGLISH SPELLED BACKWARDS!

And the author just wrote himself as the hero and THREE TIMES describes how handsome he is.

According to the font of all knowledge (aka Wikipedia) then it will be about the freemasons. Hopefully Langdon will run into Nic Cage on a treasure hunt at some point.

Absolutely. Although I'm not super-loving the Dan Brown series so far. Seems like too much exposition and too much silliness.
