The musical is a lost art form. Despite the resurgence in their popularity thanks to the amateurish likes of High School Musical, Hairspray and Mama Mia, truly great musicals died with Gene Kelly and Rogers and Hammerstein, everyone knows this. Rob Marshall's Chicago was perhaps the last musical to come close to recapturing the magic of the genre, and now he's given it another go - this time sans Richard Gere, so it's bound to be better!
Due for release in November the movie stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard and a host of others.

hereWhereas back in the day it seemed perfectly natural for people to burst into song onscreen, it seems to feel more staged now for some reason. Chicago avoided this by making most of the numbers fantasy sequences, there appears to be no such crutch in this movie.
Derived from Fellini's 8½, Nine is based on a Tony Award-winning musical in which Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) struggles to direct a film and has trouble keeping his
