Okay, idiotic headline aside, it does pretty much sum it up. Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer, Milk) is to shortly star in a modern update of Hamlet, with 'Twilight' director Catherine Hardwicke in the director's chair for it. According to Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, the producers, it was actually Hirsch's idea to update Hamlet for the modern day. Modern updates of Shakespeare have worked of course; 'Romeo + Juliet' struck gold for Baz Luhrmann, and 'Ten Things I Hate About You' was an excellent teen comedy. On the other side of the fence, we have the excruciating 'She's the Man', but thankfully since this effort will not involve Amanda Bynes trying to look like a man, it might actually be good. Of course the idea of updating the bard is hardly a novel idea - can Hirsch, as good an actor as he is, and Hardwicke actually create something genuinely good we haven't seen before?
Is it to be? Or is it....*dramatic inevitable pause*....not to be?
*sound of tumbleweeds*
