Rumours have been circulating for a while now about a proposed sequel to the 1980's pschedelic animation 'Heavy Metal' including that three of the biggest directors in Hollywood right now are chomping at the bit to be able to direct a segment.

Well the news has just got even better with it coming out today that James Cameron has also signed up for a directing spot, as has the musically inclined funny-man Jack Black, though it is unclear whether he will contribute music to the piece or just his voice talent.

MTV has the story
Quote
How do you up the ante when you already have three of the hottest directors on the planet locked, loaded and ready for your film? In the case of “Heavy Metal,” you bring aboard yet another fan-favorite filmmaker and a world-famous musician-actor hybrid.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” co-creator Kevin Eastman, also the owner and publisher of “Heavy Metal” magazine, has announced that “Avatar” director James Cameron and Tenacious D rocker Jack Black are joining the ranks of “Heavy Metal,” the multi-directorial comic book adaptation from the likes of Zack Snyder, Gore Verbinski and David Fincher (who will also serve as an executive producer).

This project is shaping up quite nicely in my eyes, though it is still unclear when exactly it is going to get off the ground. My general feeling with films like this that are, shall we say, less mainstream is that I treat everything as rumour until the cameras start rolling. Although with this much clout behind it, I'm sure someone will stump up the cash eventually.

Jack Black huh? I remember hearing once that maybe David Fincher was rumored to direct.... So is this movie going to be an animation film or live action?

Yeah David Fincher is slated to direct a segment. As far as I can gather it's going to be a kind of animated anthology film with different segments directed by different people. Details are thin on the ground though.
