9: A beautiful lookin' apocalypse

My uninspired headline aside, this is a very unusual animation project being produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted) and Tim Burton (Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas), and may well be one to watch. Apart from its extraordinary producing talent, it also has Pamela Pettler, the screenwriter of ‘Corpse Bride’ and ‘Monster House’ fame writing it. The rather funky trailer can be found here (http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/9) and showcases not only some rather jaw-droppingly beautiful animation, but also a fantastic voice cast, consisting of Elijah Wood, Christopher Plummer, Crispin Glover, John C. Reilly and Jennifer Connelly.

This has been one of my most anticipated films since the trailer came out last year. It seems like we are finally getting some animation that isn't aimed squarely at the kid's market. Let's hope that the film does well so we might see more, similar projects.
