Christopher Nolan is hot property in Hollywood at the moment. With The Dark Knight Nolan Proved that box office success and critical acclaim do occasionally cross paths. This quality to inject intelligence into mainstream blockbusters seems as rare as ever at the moment as Transformers 2 clunks closer to release. Michael Bay bashing aside, Nolan’s new film Inception will be a high budget sci-fi/action film with a dynamic cast which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page and Joseph Gorden-Levitt. Many had expected that Nolan’s next film was going to be a more low-key affair than The Dark Knight but reports suggest that the film could have a budget of over $200million. It is a long way from Nolan’s first feature film Following which he made for a mere £6000 with a cast of unknown actors.
As much as I admire The Dark Knight I’d also love to see Nolan return to the inventive low budget filmmaking that spawned his debut feature Following and which he developed further with Memento. However I’m sure that Inception will be a cinematic highlight of 2010 nevertheless.

What a great cast that is. Hit or miss, at least $200m will mean some serious special fx.

Ye I agree, this film has an excellent cast!

I wish we had a $200million dollar budget for the Killer Bear movie!

200 Million is a HUGE amount for a film that isn't a sequel to an already successful franchise. Good on him. He hasn't made a bad film yet. I wonder if this all banks on him or if he wowed the studio with the script as well, or it's loading with tons of cuddly Ewoks that they can market to kids.

The Prestige is a fucking brilliant movie, and not at all blockbuster-y. Definitely worth checking out.

Yeah, he's due a hit.

If anyone here hasn't seen The Prestige, get it out, it's a fantastic movie, effortlessly clever storytelling.

Yeah I like Prestige a lot as well. Insomnia is a pretty good film also, I like Robin Williams when he's not being his usual cheesy self.
Has anyone else actually seen Following by the way? its basically like a warm up for Memento but it's still pretty good anyway.

Looking at his resume on IMDB it's very solid, although to be honest I didn't think that Batman Begins was anywhere near as good as The Dark Knight.

Following is very, very good. Especially since he shot  it for almost no cash over the course of a year.

Insomnia and Prestige are his two weakest films, and that's saying a lot cause they're both very good. Insomnia suffers on a script level, but he didn't write it. Performances and direction are great.  Prestige has one flaw: everything, including the title of the film, leads you to the final twist ... which you figure out in the first third of the movie. It's an awesome film, it just sucks when you've figured it out and are totally sure they MEANT for you to figure it out so they can through the real twist in at the end ... and then you find out there isn't another twist.  Otherwise, brilliant script, acting, production design, and cinematography.

Memento and Dark Knight stand as his best I think. Utterly brilliant.

Agree totally, with a few more movies under his belt of the standard as high as he has set himself i think we could safely call him Britains greatest Director working today.
