Right off the bat I have to state that I hate Jack Black. I don't think he is even remotely as funny as he thinks he is The arched eyebrow? Sorry, pal, it worked with Belushi but on you its nothing more than an annoying facial tic. with that said I am, however, really excited to see his next film for to simple reasons -- One is the plot (which I'll get to in a moment) and the other is the awesomeness that is director Michael Gondry -- The man behind the brilliant, pending classic
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and the good but not great
Science of Sleep. He is a truly gifted filmmaker capable pulling us into worlds where everything and anything is possible. His fantastical visuals are not just tossed in for shits and giggles but to explore the inner working of its characters. Okay, enough with the Gondry-love.
The clever, albeit peculiar (even for a Gondry film), concept behind
Be Kind Rewind is summed up with the synopsis "When Jerry becomes accidentally magnetized while trying to sabotage the power plant he believes is melting his brain, the magnetic field he gives off ends up erasing all of the tapes in the video store where his best friend Mike works." From their the plot gets even more bizarre as both begin to reenact classic movies (ranging from
Driving Miss Daisy to
Robocop) for the store's favorite fan.
So while surfing the 'net (as you kids call it) for clown porn and "10 Different Ways to Kill A Man with A Shoe" I came across the
Be Kind Rewind website which offers up some pretty cool wallpapers and avatars. But most importantly it allows you to "swede yourself" on to the cover boxes of a variety of films ranging from
Boogie Nights to
Austin Powers to Hulk Hogan's crowning theatrical achievement (and multi-Oscar winner)
No Holds Barred.
Be Kind Rewind rolls out on January 25th 2008.
