Concept art and character portraits from Tim Burton's re-imagining of Lewis Carrolls classic childrens books
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and
Through the Looking Glass have recently been unveiled in USA Today to promote the release of the film which is due out March 2010. Burton's film, titled
Alice in Wonderland, will include a variety of characters from both of Lewis Carrolls books including the Jabberwocky, the Caterpillar and The Mad Hatter. Johnny Depp will take on the role of the Hatter in what is set to be the seventh collaboration between Burton and Depp. Under Burton's direction, Depp has been given great opportunities to demonstrate his diverse capabilities as an actor, from the shy, awkwardness of Edward Scissorhands to the maniacal, bloody excess of Sweeney Todd. It is surely one of the most fruitful director/actor partnerships in film history, up there with Scorsese/De Niro. Other cast members include Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as The White Queen and
Little Britain star Matt Lucas playing the dual roles of Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Playing the title role of Alice is Australian newbie Mia Wasikowska.
Anyway It looks as though this project has given Tim Burton the chance to explore and express his dark and wild imagination, something in itself which will make this film well worth seeing.
