So the remake juggernaut rolls on with the recent announcement that Dimension films is planning a remake of the horror classic
An American Werewolf in London. It is an announcement that may not be welcomed with open arms by many, due to the fact that the original film has a large cult following. Directed by John Landis in 1981, the film begins as two American backpackers are ravaged by a mysterious beast whilst hiking across the Yorkshire Moors in England. The original film combined genuine horror with black comedy and contained some of the best pre-CGI special effects ever seen, demonstrated in the famous Werewolf transformation scene. A sequel of sorts was made in 1997,
An American Werewolf in Paris which did use CGI. What is interesting looking back is that it is the more recent CGI special effects of the Paris film that have aged much less graciously.
