The weekend numbers are almost in and as the dust settles, it's going to be a close one for first place!

In the blue corner...

The current reigning champion, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, sequel to 2007's barely-visible robot mash-up, in which Michael Bay tries to disguise his abomination with lots of whizzes and bangs. Also featuring Shia LaBeouf looking his most uncomfortable and Megan Fox, the girl everyone's dad drools over.

In the red corner...

The challenger, weighing in at three movies, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, in which animated family comedy falls to cute-looking T-Rexes for laughs. Features the voices of Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and Ray Romano.

The weekend box office is, so far, too close to call, with both movies grossing around $40 million over the weekend. Transformers: Fling Some More CGI Over There Behind Megan Fox's Jiggling Breasts has thus far almost grossed a sequel-guaranteeing $600 million worldwide - with a fat slice of that pie going right into Michael Bay's pocket.

Ice Age 3: Funny Animals Versus Darwin opened on Wednesday to beat the July 4th holiday rush and has got its grubby CG hands on $148 million worldwide, also earning the biggest international opening of all time for an animated film. This will break $200 million by midweek.

Third place went to Mann/Depp/Bale 30's-'em-up Public Enemies. Also opening on Wednesday, the film has made a respectable $26 million, with a total of $41 million, but has yet to open worldwide.

In fourth place is Sandra Bullock's rom-com The Proposal. No figures are yet known, but it's somewhere between $10 and $25 million.

Fifth place, incredibly, goes to The Hangover, with $10 million, becoming one of the few movies to break $200 million this year (behind Star Trek and Transformers: More Toys Than Your Parents' Drawers).

And that's all for this week.
