Somewhat unsurprisingly, Sacha Baron Cohen's excellent gay-'em-up
Bruno did unspeakable things to the box office, 'coming' in first place with a decent $30 million, just $4 million more than
Borat managed - although the previous film went on to gross over $250 million worldwide, so it's all still to play for.
Second place went to
Ice Age 3: Merchandising Oportunities, which pulled in a further $28 million, total gross now $120 million. Third was
Transformers: Racism is Cool, Okay? with another $24 million, bringing it's total up to a staggering
$330 million - maybe Michael Bay will be able to pay us all to forget it ever happened with his slice of that pie. This makes
Transformers: Seriously, Did Anybody Draft This? the most profitable movie of the year so far.
Public Enemies smashed into fourth with only $14 million, totalling at $66 million. Fifth and sixth place went, amazingly, to
The Proposal and
The Hangover, which made $10 and $9 million respectively, with totals of $100 million and $220 million. Incredible.
The other major new film, Fox's
I Love You Beth Cooper crashed and burned into seventh place with $5 million.
