One of the godfathers of horror, Dario Argento, returns later this year with his new film Giallo and here is the trailer courtesy of Bloody Disgusting.
http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/16654
It stars Adrien Brody as an Italian detective trying to save an American girl from a serial killer known only as Giallo.
Interestingly Giallo is both the title and the genre of the film. Directly translated from Italian Giallo means yellow which is in reference to the yellow covered detective novels on which the films are based. Traditionally the genre combines the detective aspect with excesses of bloody violence, sex and nudity. Argento is one of the foremost representatives of the genre which originates from Italy and he helped to popularise it outside of Italy. It is not hard to see the connection between Giallo and the so called ‘torture porn’ of modern day films such as Hostel. Argento seems to be making a bold statement by titling his film Giallo, he means to claim back the genre from these cocky young bucks like Eli Roth.
Argento’s most famous film to date is Suspiria. The 1976 film is about an American dancer who arrives at a European dance school which turns out to be a witches coven. For anyone who has seen Suspiria they will understand what I mean when I say it is an odd experience.  Part Horror film, part surreal art film it is more often hilarious rather than terrifying. Less focussed on the quality of the acting and the script and the need to have a comprehensible narrative, instead Argento is more concerned with technique and atmosphere. Despite its shortcomings (particularly apparent when viewed from a contemporary perspective) there is a strange sort of beauty to the garish excess of Suspiria which has helped it to develop a large cult following.  Plans are in place for a remake due out 2010/2011.

Here's a trailer for the original

As for the Giallo trailer, I’m not really sure what to make of it, have we seen it all before? Also reports from the Edinburgh film festival, where the film was screened, say that it had its audience in fits of laughter. Not a good sign.

The problem with the tagline in the Suspiria trailer is that it suggests the last 12 minutes aren't as good as the rest of the movie.

yeah that is a wierd thing to say, I think it would be better if they had said the last 12 minutes are scarier than the rest of the film rather than the other way round.
The best thing about the film has to be that creepy music, it reminds me of the music for john carpenter's films

Yeah it's a great score, and the movie is strong too. You should check out Argento's Tenebrae if you haven't already.

Yeah some of the hew Argento films look cheesy and poorly made, I am a huge fan of his earlier work, I own alot of his films. I actually just bought The Card Player today... Yeah some Argento films have awesome scores, then some will just throw you off, like Opera, this insane rock music comes on out of nowhere during the suspenseful scenes and totally throw the film off course. But dont get me wrong I love his work, he is a horror movie master/icon/legend. I still want to see this movie and his films to come...
