First off, Order of the Phoenix is easily the best of the first five films, even though he calls Yate's directing "Prosaic"

Secondly, he spend an entire paragraph talking about appealing physical qualities of the underage actors. How fucking creepy.

It's not hard to find Variety talking out of its arse. These are literally the first two I searched for.

John Carpenter's THE THING

Quote
"A letdown"
If you say so. Only one of the best horror movies ever made, but carry on.

Quote
"What the old picture delivered - and what Carpenter has missed - was a sense of intense dread"
Ha ha! Have they seen the original? Vegetable man!? John Carpenter's The Thing lacks a sense of dread? Whaaaaaat?

Quote
Kurt Russell is the nominal hero, although suicidal attitude adopted towards the end undercuts his status as a centerscreen force.
No it doesn't.

It flopped when it opened thanks to bulls**t reviews like this.

UGH.

This movie is utter genius. Inventive. Original (sounds lame since it's a remake, but it's true). Compelling. Takes you to another world and leaves you in awe.

They built buildings up in ... Alaska? ... and let the snow come in around it, just so they could have a realistic set. Nowadays they'd do it on a MacBook Pro and it would look like shit.

This movie is one of the reasons I make movies, and the most "reputable" industry publication in Los Angeles.

Sad. These folks know nothing about movies, don't make their own movies, and work to determine the fate of hard working, ingenious people trying to make a living off their creativity.
