Smith Moves Manhattan

Will Smith is set to re-team with I Am Legend helmer Francis Lawrence, to make The City That Sailed. Believe it or not, that title is quite literal, with Smith's character capable of moving Manhattan with the power of love, hopefully whilst singing the Huey Lewis classic.

The love in question is paternal, as Smith plays

a father who lives on the opposite side of the ocean from his daughter. Their bond is so strong that it causes Manhattan to split off and float across the Atlantic.

Brian Koppelman and David Levien, writers of Ocean’s Thirteen, are rewriting Andrew Niccol's script. The script may be amazing, but the concept does not seem great...it's certainly unique though. It is unique, right? There aren't other movies where people move islands with the power of love?

Other projects in the pipeline for Smith include a remake of The Karate Kid that he's producing; a remake of Oldboy that he's starring in; and, prior to this announcement, a prequel to I Am Legend was rumoured. I think the most anticipated of all of these has to be Oldby, whether people enthuse about the material being adapted again or not - it's Smith and Spielberg. That's HUGE with a capital $.

dear dalmationjaws, wtf are you crazy? okay, first off, producing doesn't count - and even if it did that list contains two of the most financially successful movies of the past decade and two academy award nominated films, you could hardly describe that as 'turning to shit'.

as for the stuff spielberg *actually made*, catch me if you can and minority report are fantastic! brilliant, brilliant movies, if you didn't enjoy them there's something wrong with you. seriously, maybe medically wrong. somebody call dr house to make sure it's not lupus.

munich, war of the worlds and ai are all fine. he does perfectly well with the dark subject matter in munich, war of the worlds is a serviceable action movie. only the terminal and crystal skull could you make a convincing argument for being bad, and even so they're hardly the worst movies you've ever seen.

Munich is snooze worthy and thematically cowardly. They pull all their punches, tiptoe around real drama, and actually juxtapose an orgasm with an explosion and think that works above a sophomore film school level. Tripe.

Minority Report is a sloppy Hollywood screenplay that can't decide it it wants to be cute or dark.

Catch Me if you Can is the slowest chase movie ever made with interesting moment strung together with no finesse.

The man hasn't directed an interesting script since AI and hasn't directed a GOOD script since Schindler's List with maybe that exception of Private Ryan.

As for the Manhattan movie.... all i can say is its shit. Sounds like the corniest movie i've ever heard of. May fly with middle age menopausal women but I wouldnt pay any money to see that, you know what hell I wouldnt even see it for free.
