Is this the next Scooby-Doo? Much beloved and still funny kid's cartoon
Hong Kong Phooey is about to go into production, based on a script by David Goodman (TV's
Family Guy.)
The cartoon sees a dog, the mild-mannered janitor of a police department, gifted with the powers of kung-fu, which he then keeps a secret to do battle with crime on the streets. Unfortunately, he isn't very lucky and frequently gets himself into all sorts of comedy hijinks.
The film is expected to be largely live-action, so expect a horrifyingly scary version of Hong Kong Phooey himself to stare out at you with dead eyes.
Hong Kong Phooey is to be directed by Alex Zamm (
Inspector Gadget 2) and is produced by, among others, Brett Ratner of
Rush Hour and
X-Men 3 fame.
