We just got a monster tip that comes from one of regular scoopers who enjoys remaining anonymous. While we was dead-on with his insider info on Alien and Predators, he was off on announcing that Neil Marshall would direct Predators (although it's a known fact that he was in close negotiations). This afternoon I got a phone call from our good pal who tells us he has the names of the first four individuals cast in Robert Rodriguez's Machete feature film! Read on for the skinny.

What we learned is the following:

Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis are teaming up to begin filming Machete on July 29th. They are co-directors.

-DANNY TREJO is returning (obviously) as "Machete", the madman bent on revenge.
-MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ ("Lost", Fast & Furious, Avatar) is said to be playing "Luz".
-JONAH HILL, the comedian who has starred in such films as Superbad and the forthcoming Adam Sandler comedy Funny People, will play "Julio".
-Lastly, a legend of our time, ROBERT DE NIRO, will take on the role of "Senator McLaughlin".

Machete (Trejo) is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator (De Niro). The film was teased as a faux trailer that was directed by Robert Rodriguez in Dimension Films' Grindhouse, which featured a full-length film from both Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.

Obviously, keep this sucker filed under rumor until confirmed.

Robert De Niro will do anything these days, he hasn't been a great actor since Heat/Casino, so I can well believe he'd be in this.

Deniro has turned in some REAL shitty performances over they years, dating back to The Mission (at least) which was in his "great" years.  He seems great with mild to strong insanity but can't do normal very well.  Lately he seems to take ANY project. I wonder if he needs more money and doesn't want to actually work hard for it?

He was good casting in Stardust cause it was hilarious to see him gay it up, but that was in no way good acting.

He has done some good films since then in my opinion....

The Fan (1996)- He played a real good creepy fan!
Jackie Brown (1997)-His performance in this movie is like no other from him, he showed he could play a character he hasnt before.
Ronnin (1998)-Good strory, good acting.
Analyize This (1999)-Looking back on this film now you might not like as much, but at the time it was funny!
Meet the Parents (2000) This was a big hit with some classic De Niro acting!
15 Minutes (2001)- Very entertaing!
Shark Tale (2004)-Perfect voice to play the role he did! No one could of done it better!

meet the parents is classic. hated the sequel. last serious thing, it pains me to say, that i think he was in was jackie brown. love de niro though, he's great. that trailer was awesome, and i didn't even see grindhouse.

jonah hill seems like an odd choice for this kind of movie, should be interesting.

on the subject of grindhouse, i wish i'd got aroung to seeing black dynamite:

on the subject of michael jai white, from film drunk:

Quote
This is the trailer for the direct-to-DVD fight flick, Blood and Bone.  Starring MICHAEL JAI WHITE, as… ISAIAH BONE.  You might also notice a couple cameos by professional giant black guys Kimbo Slice and Bob Sapp. But pay special attention to the 1:17 mark, where Michael Jai White KICKS FOUR GUYS IN THE FACE BEFORE HE HITS THE GROUND!  OOH WHA-AA AA-AA!

So basically, it’s like the black version of Never Back Down, which automatically makes it roughly 10 times cooler than Never Back Down.  Plus, no Cam Gigandet, which is worth another 15.  Oh, and Gina Carano guest stars, which means I get to post my favorite gif:
