By now everyone who is anyone is aware that Gary Oldman spilled the beans about the ineveitable third Christopher Nolan Batman film during the Warner Bros panel and this years Comic Con by claiming filming would commence next year...Doh. However David S. Goyer (A writer on the two previous films) has quickly dampened Oldman's claims in an interview with mtv news by saying Nolan is primarily concerned with his upcoming sci-fi action film Inception

Quote
"Right now, Chris is involved in filming 'Inception,' and when he finishes that, he will turn his studious gaze back to the Bat universe and we'll see,"

On the back of Oldman's claim we might have hoped for a few more details to emerge over the next few months, of course the holy grail being the identity of the villain. Alas, it seems as though in light of Goyer's cautious response we are going to be fed the standard spiel for a while longer at least.

Tennant as The Riddler? it's what the fans want

It's going to be Johnny Depp as the Riddler. They won't cast Dr. Who over Depp (who's already said he's open to it) in a million years.

According to Michael Caine an exec told him a year ago it would be Depp and Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.

I just noticed this, doesn't Depp's last line sound like he knows something? That smirk only means one thing to me.

not buying it. people were saying PSH would be penguin before the dark knight came out, and depp as soon as dark knight hit. it's all tabloid rumours, i'm positive it won't happen.

christin bale is in pirates of the caribbean 4!!! exclusive!!!   Wink

i think it's pretty standard talk when actors enjoy working with each other, russell crowe said the same thing about working with bale. as did hugh jackman, leading to people to proclaim him 'front runner' for the role of two-face. if nolan does decide to do the riddler, which is all assumption at this point anyway, i sincerely doubt that he'll cast depp, he'll cast who is right for the part, like he did with ledger.

and that phillip seymore hoffman thing was shot down by nolan himself, he said he'd be interested in working with hoffman, but not doing a character like the penguin.

Joseph Gordon Levitt - Joker

As for second villain ... I can see Nolan going with someone less notable than Depp. He went with Ledger when I'm sure TONS of Hollywood starts were vying for that amazing role. And let's not forget Cillian Murphy who is recognizable but not a huge box office draw. Depp definately works as Riddler, but he seems to be on this track of being THE shining star of all his projects. He comendeered the Pirates franchise and now he's apparently the tentpole of Alice in Wonderland. If that's his doing then I could see Nolan shying away from him if he intends to make Joker the main villain, which all signs point to in terms of the story arch he built in Dark Knight. Whether he sticks with that and replaced Ledger with Levitt remains to be seen. If it shifts and he uses Riddler as a sort-of spiritual sounterpart to Joker, then I can see Depp coming in.

Didn't watch the video, I'd rather live in my own head. If Nolan wants Depp he'll get Depp, but I think his pattern shows that he probably won't. And if he refuses he's about the only director in Hollywood with enough clout to go toe to toe with a studio over Depp.

I'll watch the vid now. Promise.

I'll be looping it on the front page when he gets cast, with a flickering message saying 'I told you so'. You all better get used to it.
