Transformers was massive. G.I.Joe looks set for big things. What's the next biggest nostalgic toy brand you can think of? If you said Lego, then you are possibly a Warner Bros. executive.
Variety has the story.
WB is toying with plans to develop a movie around Lego and its popular building blocks.
Scribes Dan and Kevin Hageman are penning the script for the family comedy that will mix live action and animation. Warners is keeping the plot tightly under wraps, but it's described as an action adventure set in a Lego world.
Dan Lin, who is shepherding Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes" and exec produced the studio's upcoming family film "Shorts," will produce the movie through his Lin Pictures, which is also behind a "Tom and Jerry" film that will put the feuding animated characters in a live-action setting. The shingle's Stephen Gilchrist serves as co-producer.
Roy Lee will produce through his Vertigo banner, while Jill Wilfert, VP of licensing and entertainment at Lego, will oversee the pic for the toymaker.
I am so up for this movie! I'm just disappointed that it will be a family comedy and not a hard-R. For some reason I can really see an action movie based around Lego working, and it seems much less goofy than a lot of the toy-to-movie ideas being knocked around, the writers basically have the freedom to do anything they like. Maybe we'll even see cameos from Lego Batman, Indiana Jones or Star Wars.
The Variety article also points out that the Danish company is very protective of their brand, and don't lend the name to just any old rubbish, hopefully this means the script they are developing will be of some quality.
