Bryan Singer (of
X-Men,
The Usual Supects and
Superman Pervs on Women for Two Hours fame) is on board to produce and possibly direct a remake of the classic 1981 John Boorman flick
Excalibur.
The film, a take on many existing legends of King Arthur, made stars of its main cast like Liam Neeson, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren and Gabriel Bryne. It featured a huge number of ancient tales of swords and sorcery, including Arthur's trials, Merlin the Wizard, the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail.
It is currently unknown whether or not Singer will get serious about directing the picture as he has a lot on his plate right now. He's signed up for the
Battlestar Galactica movie and is set to direct
Jack the Giant Killer, a take on the tale of
Jack and the Beanstalk. He might well also be in the frame for
X-Men: First Class, a prequel spinoff sequel thing with a first draft penned by Josh
The OC Schwartz. Blimey.
